Mora, MN - In Mora, Minnesota, a large construction project for Kanabec County began in spring 2008. Valued at $12 million, the new 45,000 square foot jail is projected to be completed summer 2009 and will be capable of holding 150 beds. The project is using the Submittal Exchange system for submitting, reviewing, and tracking shop drawings and other construction correspondence electronically.
The project team is benefiting by having all project related documents in one secure online location. "We use Submittal Exchange to manage every type of construction correspondence related to this project including images, meeting minutes, observation reports, RFIs, ASIs, etc.," exclaims Mark Schneider, Architect for Klein McCarthy Architects, an architecture firm located in St. Louis Park, Minnesota. "Submittal Exchange helps the whole process flow easily; everything is much smoother."
"Submittal Exchange is saving our company a tremendous amount of time. Communicating with the subcontractors and the architect is much easier, helping to avoid time delays and speed up the entire process."
- Larry Filippi, Project Manager, The Contegrity Group
Contegrity Group Incorporated based in Little Falls, Minnesota, is a Midwest construction management services company working with county, educational, and commercial construction projects. "Submittal Exchange is great. We are using the system to manage closeout items, RFIs, observation reports, meeting minutes, and job site photos among other correspondence," states Larry Filippi, Project Manager with the Contegrity Group. "I have no doubt that the contractors on the project are receiving my required items because everyone is accessing one centralized log."
In addition to facilitating the construction administration process, Submittal Exchange is providing a significant opportunity for project team members to speed up the submittal process. "Submittal Exchange is saving our company a tremendous amount of time. Communicating with the subcontractors and the architect is much easier, helping to avoid time delays and speed up the entire process. Now, with Submittal Exchange, when I see an item on the system I know the subcontractors can see it as well," comments Filippi. "From an office standpoint we are saving time and money on shipping with everything being done electronically, and not having to distribute multiple paper copies of our construction documents."
"The turnaround time has been much quicker since we started using Submittal Exchange. It's great having the ability to review and markup only one electronic document." - Matthew Keenan, Project Manager, Klein McCarthy Architects
Submittal Exchange is providing the project team with a sustainable, environmentally friendly solution to manage the submittal process. Matthew Keenan, Project Manager with Klein McCarthy Architect comments, "By managing the process electronically, we are saving trees and substantially decreasing the amount of printing throughout the construction phase." Kennan also added, "The turnaround time has been much quicker since we started using Submittal Exchange. It's great having the ability to review and markup only one electronic document. The system automatically tracks the items that need completed or reviewed which provides a very high level of accountability for all the parties involved."
"Submittal Exchange has streamlined everything! When an item needs completed or reviewed the entire project team can see that, holding everyone accountable. It's nice because I don't receive calls from the architects inquiring on the status of documents," comments Filippi. "Submittal Exchange has provided a well-documented process for the project, it's just plain easier. I'm also looking forward to having all project related documents on one CD. The entire project team will have the same record of information, which is great!"
When asked about recommending Submittal Exchange to fellow construction professionals Keenan states, "Yes, it's a great way to speed up production of shop drawings and to get everyone on board immediately."
